SUMMARY:Leeds | NHS anniversary march and rally
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a march and rally on the anniversary of the founding of our NHS!  \nAssemble at 11:30 at Leeds Town Hall. March at noon. \nWe are marching for: \n\n An end to chronic underfunding of the NHS. If the annual funding increase hadn’t been cut from 3% to 1% since 2010 the NHS would be £35billion better off. There wouldn’t be six million people waiting for treatment\, a dire shortage of staff and up to date equipment and a huge backlog of building repairs \nSafe staffing levels. A 33% shortage of radiologists is delaying cancer diagnoses. A shortage of 2\,000 midwives & 5\,000 health visitors risks the health of mothers and babies. I in 7 vacant GP posts means grave illness goes undetected More beds. Being stuck in A&E waiting days for a bed is scary\, miserable and dangerous. We need parity with similar countries. The UK has 2.5 beds per 100\,000 population compared with France’s 5.8 and Germany’s 7.9\nInvestment in the NHS not private health. Stop the growth of a two tier health service based on ability to pay.\nA radical transformation of Social Care \nPay justice for health and care staff! \n\nFacebook: KONP Leeds\nTel: 07419 295754

SUMMARY:Day of Action | Rebuild our NHS: get private profits out!
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 11th June\, We Own It are holding a day of action supported by Keep Our NHS Public and Unite Community. \nVia WeOwnIt: \nFrom the 1st of July 2022 our NHS across England will be reorganised. England will be divided into 42 new NHS bodies called Integrated Care Systems (ICS). \nAfter 20\,500 We Own It supporters emailed NHS leaders in the last few weeks\, the chairs of 8 ICSs have come out and pledged that private companies won’t sit on their boards. \nSo it’s time to push harder and force more of them to make the pledge\, or to go further for patients not profits. Join our Day of Action on Saturday\, 11th June to help pile on the pressure. \nFind more information and join your local event:\nhttps://weownit.org.uk/act-now/lets-push-more-join-our-ics-day-action

SUMMARY:Online rally: Stand up fight back!
DESCRIPTION:The Health & Care Act has now passed into law. Waiting lists are at a record high. The staffing crisis is deepening. NHS workers still haven’t received the pay rise they deserve. SUMMARY:London | Strike rally with outsourced workers
DESCRIPTION:Via United Voices of the World \n\nMeeting point: North end of Queen Square\, London WC1N 3AU\n\nJoin the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) security guards for a rally to support their fight for equality after more than seven weeks of strike action. The predominantly Black\, brown and migrant security guards are now the only workers at the hospital who are not on NHS contracts and this has to change now! \n\n\nThey are fighting back against a two-tier system and have been taking strike action to have their voices heard! During their struggle against structural racism they have been subjected to a draconian injunction\, union-busting and vile racial slurs. \n\nLet’s make sure the wealthy GOSH trustees hear us loud and clear. If they can do it for the cleaners\, they can do it for the security guards! End racist outsourcing at GOSH!

SUMMARY:SOSNHS National Day of Action 26 February
DESCRIPTION:KONP is part of  SOSNHS together with Health Campaigns Together\, We Own It\, health unions and other health campaign organisations. \nFor full information on 26 February Day of Action see sosnhs.org/events \nKONP local groups are organising events for the Day of Action all over the country.  \nThe NHS is facing its worst crisis ever. This is a national emergency. In 2010\, after a decade of investment\, our NHS was delivering its best-ever performance: after more than a decade of austerity – despite heroic efforts by staff – it has sunk to its worst-ever. The problems were there before the pandemic but have been deepened by the continued high level of Covid infections. We need emergency funds to save lives now. \nOUR THREE DEMANDS: \nApprove emergency funding of £20 billion* to save lives this winter\n__________________ \nInvest in a fully publicly owned NHS & guarantee free healthcare for future generations\n__________________ \nPay staff properly: without fair pay\, staffing shortages will cost lives\n__________________ \n  \n

SUMMARY:Care and Support Workers Organise! Public Meeting 22 February 2022 at 7pm
DESCRIPTION:Tackling the crisis in social care: we must value workers to ensure future service\nThe staffing crisis in social care is nothing new. Before the pandemic\, analysis from The Office Group (TOG) illustrated that social care was the most stressful industry to work in as workers tend to work longer hours and report more cases of work-related stress\, depression and anxiety. We demand systemic change for a better social care service for all. \nClick here to register for this event\nSpeakers: \nEmma Dowling: Sociologist & political scientist Emma teaches at the University of Vienna. She is the author of The Care Crisis: What Caused it and How We End It. Her book looks at the years of austerity and financialisaton that led us to our current crisis point and points us in the direction of a more caring and equitable future. \nLarry Sanders: is an American-British academic\, social worker\, politician\, and former Health and Social Care Spokesperson of the Green Party of England and Wales. \nStella Noakes: Former Care Worker and CaSWO activist. Until recently Stella was a domiciliary care worker. Despite loving her job\, a lack of opportunities for career progression and low pay forced her to make the difficult decision to leave the sector. Stella will discuss her experience working in social care and what she feels needs to be done to stop us losing skilled and passionate workers. \nSteve North: Salford UNISON Branch Secretary\, UNISON NEC Representative for the North West and former Community Mental Health Support Worker: Steve was involved in the campaign from Salford Unison and the city’s socialist council that won care workers a national pay rise worth £19 million. He will explore how to we tackle the staffing crisis through Trade Union strength and building strong links with progressive Local Authorities. \nClair Glasman: WinVisible is a multi-racial community group of women with visible and invisible disabilities: polio\, sickle cell anaemia\, osteo-arthritis and mental health issues\, from different backgrounds: asylum seekers\, refugees\, other immigrants\, UK-born \n\n

SUMMARY:Support G4S workers' protest at Croydon Hospital 31 January
DESCRIPTION:Meet at 12 noon outside London Road Entrance (not A&E entrance) Monday 31 January.  \nPorters and cleaners at Croydon’s Mayday Hospital are to staging a protest on 31 January after  private NHS contractor G4S stopped paying Covid-positive hospital workers’ occupational sick pay. \n\n \nPatients at risk: porters and cleaners are not receiving covid sick pay \n\nThe employers refusing to pay staff for covid absences has led to the GMB union to call on the Croydon NHS Trust to cancel G4S’s contract because of the massive risk to public health that the pay policy creates. \nWith staff – many of them on very low wages – being denied sick pay\, many feel forced to come into the hospital when they have symptoms of the potentially deadly virus because they cannot afford to take time off to self-isolate. \n“Our hard-working members are sick and tired of being abused and exploited by G4S\,” GMB spokesperson Helen O’Conner said. \n“They are on poverty pay and to add insult to injury they are being denied wages if they come down with covid. \n“These members have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic at great risk to themselves and their families and they are demanding fair sick pay so that they do not put patients at risk from cross-infection. \n  \n“If G4S is not willing to ensure that their staff and patients are as safe as possible during a pandemic\, they cannot continue to hold the contract. \n\n \n‘Insult’: GMB’s Helen O’Connor \n\n“We are now calling on Croydon NHS Trust to take this contract back in-house and pay these workers the sick pay they need and deserve.” \nThe GMB protest will be staged outside what is sometimes referred to as Croydon University Hospital on London Road from noon on Monday\, January 31. \n

SUMMARY:SOS NHS Rally
DESCRIPTION:SOS NHS – EMERGENCY FUNDING NOW! Wednesday 19 January 7pm\n\n\nDescription \n\nThe NHS is facing its worst crisis ever. So much so\, we believe this is a national emergency. \nSign up  here  \nSOSNHS is a new coalition.  \nIn 2010\, after a decade of investment\, our NHS was delivering its best-ever performance: After more than a decade of austerity – despite heroic efforts by staff to keep services afloat – it has sunk to its worst-ever. The problems were growing before the pandemic\, but have been deepened by the sudden and continued loss of capacity and continued high level of Covid infections. \nBut it doesn’t have to be this way\, with the political will we can fully fund our NHS\, end interference from the private sector\, pay staff properly and once again secure an NHS able to keep us all safe. \n\n\nWe’ve secured an amazing line-up which includes: \n· Sonia Adesara – KONP & Cat Hobbs – WOI (chairs)\n· Nadia Whittome – Labour MP\n· Christina McAnea – Unison\n· Alison Treacher – Care and Support Workers Organise\n· David Wrigley – BMA\n· Amelia Womack – Green Party\n· John Lister – HCT\n· Helen Salisbury – I-SAGE\n· Steve North Unison\n· Ariel Mammana – Ambulance Driver GMB\n· Striking worker from GOSH\n· Barry Gardiner – Labour MP\n· Laura Pidcock – People’s Assembly\n· Holly Johnston – NHS Workers Say No\n· Alia Butt – NHS Staff Voices\n· Paul Nowak – TUC\n· Colenzo Jarrett-Thorpe – Unite\n· GMB speaker tba \n\n\n\nTime
