SUMMARY:No Borders in the NHS: Week of Action
DESCRIPTION:(Via Medact) The Hostile Environment is turning the NHS into the new frontier of border control. Join us as we take action against patient charging and demand an end to borders in the NHS! \nHostile Environment immigration policies are undermining the founding principles of the NHS. People are turned away from the healthcare they need. People are turned away from the healthcare they need. Immigration checks are becoming normalised in receptions and wards across the country. NHS hospitals routinely share patient data with the Home Office. People are harassed by debt collectors for huge bills they will never be able to pay. \nWeek of Action\, 23 – 27 October\nPeople all over the country will take action across five themed days: \nSaturday 23rd: Remember and Resist!\nWe begin by remembering and honouring all those whose lives have been destroyed by racist Hostile Environment policies. October 23rd marks four years since the introduction of upfront charging for migrants in the NHS\, and two years since the deaths of 39 Vietnamese migrants who were found in a lorry in Essex.\n \nJoin campaign groups across London and beyond who will be holding street stalls and vigils: \nLondon: \n\n12 noon – 1pm | Lewisham Hospital A&E\, SE13 | Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign\, Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network and Lewisham Citizens\n12 noon | St. Mary’s Hospital\, Oxford Road (opposite Whitworth Gallery)\, Manchester\, M13 | Greater Manchester Patients Not Passports\, Manchester Keep our NHS Public\, Medact Manchester\, and The Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit\n12 noon | Whitechapel Underground Station | Tower Hamlets Keep Our NHS Public\n12 noon | Dalston Farmers Market\, St Paul’s Church\, N16 | Hackney Patients Not Passports\, Hackney Keep Our NHS Public\, Akwaaba\, and Feminist Fightback\n6pm | Walthamstow Town Square\, E17 | Waltham Forest Patients Not Passports\, Waltham Forest Save Our NHS\, and Waltham Forest Migrant Actio\n\nManchester: \n\n12 noon | St. Mary’s Hospital\, Oxford Road (opposite Whitworth Gallery)\, Manchester\, M13 | Greater Manchester Patients Not Passports\, Manchester Keep our NHS Public\, Medact Manchester\, and The Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Uni\n\nSunday 24th: Free for all Forever: No to Privatisation! \nThe introduction of Hostile Environment immigration policies into the NHS goes hand in hand with a wider project of privatising our healthcare system and erosion of its founding principle: that healthcare is a right and should be available to everyone\, regardless of ability to pay or where you’re from. \nWatch out today for an article on the impacts of the Health and Care Bill\, and help us share Docs Not Cops’ video outlining what is happening to the NHS. \nMonday 25th: Solidarity Knows No Borders: End the Hostile Environment \nToday we stand in solidarity with everyone impacted by the Hostile Environment and the racism of border controls. From schools\, to housing\, to healthcare\, the Hostile Environment seeks to destroy lives and undermine access to vital public services. \nToday we will highlight that the immigration system is not broken – it is violent and hostile by design. We will stand with all campaigning for an end to the Hostile Environment in its entirety. More info coming soon! \nThere will be street stalls around the country to engage with NHS staff about the Hostile Environment and how it will impact their work\, and to invite staff to get more involved in movements for migrant justice: \nLondon: \n\n7:30pm – 9pm | St Thomas’ Hospital\, Westminster Bridge entrance\, SE1 | With Lambeth and Southwark Patients Not Passports\n\nSheffield: \n\n4pm | Royal Hallamshire Hospital\, Sheffield\, S10 | With Medact Sheffield\, The Justice for Simba Campaign\, South Yorkshire Migration and Asylum Action Group\n\n\nNewcastle: \n\n8am – 9:30am | Monday 25th Royal Victoria Infirmary\, Newcastle\, NE1 | With Keep Our NHS Public North East and Medact North East\n\nTuesday 26th – Organise To Win\nThe Hostile Environment seeks to turn those who  care and support the most marginalised in our society into border guards. This is what we must remember when we build our campaigns against racist immigration controls in our public services. The Department of Health will only listen when we organise in our workplaces and in our communities\, to raise collective awareness about what is happening under the Hostile Environment and together refuse to be complicit in this system. \nJoin one of the street stalls or leafleting sessions taking place at a hospital near you! \nLondon: \n\n7:30am – 9am | St Thomas’ Hospital\, Westminster Bridge entrance\, London SE1 | With Lambeth and Southwark Patients Not Passports.\n\nLeeds: \n\n7:30 – 9am | Leeds Infirmary\, Jubilee Wing main entrance\, Leeds\, LS1 | With Leeds Keep Our NHS Public\n\nBrighton: \n\n7.45am and 4.45pm | Royal Sussex County Hospital\, BN2\n4.45pm | Millview Hospital\, BN3\nTime TBC | Princess Royal Hospital\, BR6\nTime TBC | Eastbourne District General Hospital\, BN21\n\nWednesday 27th – No Borders In Healthcare\nToday we join forces across the country to make our message clear: no borders in healthcare. The NHS must treat #PatientsNotPassports. \nIn Liverpool\, campaigners from Merseyside Solidarity Knows No Borders will be out in the town centre talking to people about the impact of NHS charging and how to join the Patients Not Passports campaign: \n\nMidday | Liverpool Town Centre (close to Iceland on Kensington) | With Merseyside Solidarity Knows No Borders.\n\nIn Bristol\, there’ll be a demo in the town centre calling for an end to NHS Charging and the Hostile Environment: \n\n7pm – 9pm | The Sails\, by Primark\, Broadmead\, BS1 | With Bristol Patients Not Passports and Bristol Medact\n\nWe’ll let you know how to participate online on the day! Get in touch at info@act.patientsnotpassports.co.uk to help get the message out on Wednesday morning.

SUMMARY:Health and Care Bill Webinar 1: Lessons from the pandemic
DESCRIPTION:Lessons from the Pandemic: Why Government’s COVID approach is a threat to our NHS \nJoin us on Wednesday 22 September for the first in a series of webinars hosted by Keep Our NHS Public on different aspects of the dangerous Health and Care Bill. \nREGISTER NOW \nWhen Matt Hancock was still Health Secretary\, he wrote the introduction to the White Paper which led to the Health and Care Bill. He stated: \nOur legislative proposals capture the learning from the pandemic and are driven by the context of a post-Covid world\, which is now in reach. And they make permanent the innovations that Covid-19 has accelerated and\nencouraged the system to improvise new and better ways of working. \nThe Government boldly claim their handling of Covid-19 has been a success. \nBut what lessons did they learn on how to reform the NHS? They’ve learnt to involve the private sector in new organisations\, hand out thousands of contracts\, many of them without procurement\, including their political cronies\, erode the distinction between public and private provision and more. \nThis online event will explore how these and other “lessons from the pandemic” are built into the Health and Care Bill. \nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:PROTECT THE NHS RALLY
DESCRIPTION:PROTECT THE NHS RALLY\nSCRAP THE HEALTH AND CARE BILL\nWednesday 8 September 7-9pm on Zoom \nRegister today in advance for this webinar here \nNew NHS legislation is changing healthcare in Britain\, making it less accessible\, less accountable\, and less safe for staff and patients. \nThe Health and Care Bill makes the NHS more vulnerable to privatisation than ever\, with increased involvement in decision making by private companies\, putting profit before patients. SUMMARY:Care Workers Clap Back: National Day of Action
DESCRIPTION:From Care and Support Workers Organise: \nThroughout the pandemic care and support workers have been at the frontline. Many of us have worked gruelling hours to cover staff shortages. Government policy allowed Covid-19 to run rampant through our care homes while we weren’t given adequate PPE to protect ourselves and our service users. Hundreds of us made the ultimate sacrifice and lost our lives from a virus we contracted at our workplaces. \nDespite our commitment to a job that we love\, 18 months from the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis we are still struggling with a lack of sick pay\, poverty wages and empty promises. We’ve faced setbacks to our already struggling sector including the right to minimum wage on sleep in shifts and mandatory vaccinations. We want change. It’s time for care workers to clap back. \nWe are calling for a national demonstration during Professional Care Workers Week. We are a skilled workforce and our wages should reflect that. We are fighting for £15 per hour and decent working conditions. \nIf you are a care worker\, belong to a trade union\, or just believe that care workers deserve better join us on September 4th. \nEvents / locations: \nLondon: Assemble 11:30 Department of Health and Social Care (39 Victoria Street London SW1H 0EU)\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/152081770374053\nManchester: Assemble 11:30am\, Piccadilly Gardens (M60 1AY)\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/2755480941409413\nNewcastle: Assemble 1pm\, Haymarket\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1428269927544576\nPreston: Assemble 12 noon\, The Flag Market (PR1 2AP)\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/856902561878278

SUMMARY:'No Jab\, No Job' - Discussing Mandatory Vaccinations For Care Workers
DESCRIPTION:Register in advance for this meeting:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZctdu6uqT4pHtIBCUss57hGJHx-lm7fqK7e\n\n \nCare and Support Workers ORGANISE! are hosting a meeting on mandatory vaccinations following the recent debate in parliament and the government’s decision to implement new regulations instructing that everyone working in CQC-registered care homes must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated with both doses or face losing their jobs.\n\n \nThe new legislation means from October – subject to Parliamentary approval and a subsequent 16-week grace period – anyone working in a CQC-registered care home in England for residents requiring nursing or personal care must have 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine unless they have a medical exemption.\n\n \nThen-Health Secretary Matt Hancock said it was a “sensible and reasonable step” and he would consult on extending it to the NHS.\n\n \nThe “liberty of non-vaccination” is a principle established in UK law since 1898. Compulsory vaccination has not been attempted since in the UK.\n\n \nWe will be joined by an excellent panel exploring the nuances of this debate and examining what this means for our ‘individual freedoms’ as care workers but also the possible impacts on a sector which already faces a staffing and funding crisis.\n\n \nSpeakers:\n> Professor Lydia Hayes – Head of Kent Law School\n> Dr Emma Runswick – British Medical Association Council Member\n> Dr Allin-Khan Labour MP for Tooting – Invited but not confirmed\n> Polly Smith (Care Worker) – Care and Support Workers ORGANISE!\n> Mike Dixon (Support Worker) – Care and Support Workers ORGANISE!

SUMMARY:NHS Staff Voices: Covid\, Pay and the Bill
DESCRIPTION:7PM\, TUESDAY 27 JULY ONLINE – REGISTER HERE NOW \n__ \n\n\nCovid\, Pay and the new Health and Care Bill are the three big issues facing NHS workers today:\n\n__\n\n\nThe impact on Covid on the NHS workforce has already been dramatic. 1500 NHS workers have lost their lives keeping the public safe and while morale is low\, do NHS workers feel they’re being properly equipped for the next wave of the pandemic?\n\n__\n\n\nThe suggested pay offer for workers was 1%. An insult after years of pay freeze and covid sacrifice. We’ll know soon what the Government is really offering. Will they see sense and grant workers pay justice\, or will they cause a crisis in the NHS workforce with more insults?\n__\n\nThe new Health and Care Bill\, which was passed this week\, allows for the most far-reaching selling off\, partitioning\, and restructuring of the NHS we’ve seen\, and poses a serious threat to the founding principles of a universal health care service.\n\n__\n\n\nJoin us to hear from NHS Staff themselves talking about how these huge issues affect them and how our NHS workers and the broader social movements can come together to fightback.\n\n__\n\nREGISTER HERE NOW

SUMMARY:Peoples Covid Inquiry Preliminary Findings
DESCRIPTION:We’re inviting the public and press to join us and Michael Mansfield QC and the People’s Covid Inquiry panel to hear our ‘manifestly obvious findings’. \nThe reason we called our People’s Covid Inquiry immediately while the pandemic is ongoing was so we could learn lessons and save lives now. \nWe are inviting the press and the public to hear these preliminary findings and help us make sure they reach the ears of the decision-makers in government so that can be implemented as soon as possible. \nAs the infection rate rises and the delta variant increasingly becomes a threat\, we have no time to lose. \nWe have been gathering evidence from some of the worlds greatest experts and hearing firsthand stories from the front line for over 4 months\, our final report is planned for release in the autumn. But we have plenty to say right now. \nPlease share this registration link with your friends\, family and colleagues today: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_EYMt2I_jTqGPBoHAgzLVLw

SUMMARY:Integrated Care Systems teach-in

What is the legislation likely to include?\nWhat could be worse than the competitive market in the NHS? (Answer: an unregulated market meaning a bonanza for private companies)\n\nIf you want to know more about these issues\, and want to discuss what YOU can do as part of KONP’s campaign\, join the ‘teach-in’ on Wednesday 23rd June\, 6.00-8.00pm – see \nRegistration link below. \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAtdeihqjsiHtPVoExEjIFRv2-FSeBZlSYJ\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
