Mental Health Crisis Summit 2019 – Book Now

This Mental Health Awareness Week Keep Our NHS Public, Mental Health – Time for Action and Health Campaigns Together are launching the Mental Health Crisis Summit.

Chronic underfunding has pushed mental health services to the brink, and the problem is getting worse. Understaffing, cuts and failure to provide early interventions for mental health patients is putting unprecedented pressure on A&E departments, emergency services and beds. Patients are being forced to travel further, and suffer worsening health, as they wait longer for treatment.

We've called an urgent one-day conference in September this year to take a closer look at the mental health crisis:

Mental Health Crisis Summit
Saturday 28 September 10am – 5pm
Royal Free Hospital School Of Medicine Rowland Hill Street
NW3 2PF
London

Dr Sonia Adesera, a trainee GP and activist told us:

"You see more and more people going to A&E with mental health issues, more police time is getting taken up trying to support people with mental health issues.

"The number of people being detained under the Mental Health Act increased by 47 per cent over the past decade. That's people getting sectioned because their mental health is getting so bad as we are not supporting them in the communities."

It's time to act

  1. Brilliant! Well needed! Sadly I will be working on that day, but would like to be informed of outcomes.
PS I was shocked when I realised how much of the NHS mental health provision has been privatised, like to the charity that I work for with accompanying low pay etc.

  2. PLEASE do not let the US or private companies loose on our NHS. Private companies are in it for the profit. Therefore they will not be maximising financial input into the care but into the pockets of their share holders. When money is so short we cannot let people with mental health problems suffer while the money goes towards those profitting.

  3. Mental Health Training is required for all Police Officers.
Fragmentation between mental health provision and the police needs addressing. A 24 hour Mental Health Service is vital to support police and individuals.
Police involvement with people without adequate mental health assessment or support can result in delayed diagnosis and dire consequences.
Police forces should be focussing on improving how to deal with people with mental health conditions in order to to discriminate between criminality and mental health.
