What’s going on: Fatal inequalities and Covid-19

2nd June 2020 - 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Speakers:
Gary Younge – Journalist and campaigner
Dame Donna Kinnair – General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing
Dr Sonia Adesara – Keep Our NHS Public and NHS Staff Voices

Race and inequality have a significant effect on covid-19 outcomes for workers, in fact black and asian people are up to 4 times more likely to die from covid-19 than white people. Despite this, they are also the workers being forced onto the frontline. Many BAME workers feel unable to demand safer working conditions for fear of disciplinary action or losing their job, and this is in an institution that is already showing contempt and disregard for their lives. In light of recent threats to end lockdown before it is safe, our second public meeting will be centred around the effects of inequality and race in the NHS, and in particular, during this pandemic.
