Why care? Contradictions and tensions

20th August 2020 - 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

This event has been organised by Reclaim Social Care, and will be held over Zoom.
The pandemic has demonstrated starkly that the current adult social care and support services need to be radically reformed. Join Reclaim Social Care in discussions on how it should be redesigned and what do we mean by the words ‘care’ and ‘independent living’. The first discussion will be on 20 August.
We are pleased to have a panel of guest speakers which will be followed by a question and answer session. The panel will include:
  • Bryony Shannon – Bryony is a blogger on all things social care and will address the tensions with the word “care”.
  • Judy Hunt – Author of No Limits, The Disabled People’s Movement.  Judy will provide an historical view of the ongoing struggle disabled people face to maintain some control of their lives.
  • Bob Williams-Findlay – Former Social Services Planning Officer, Disabled activist, will acknowledge some of the contradictions and tensions that exist and question conflicting agendas around the notion of “Care”
