The news leaked this week that hotel beds are now going to be used for NHS patients, signals that this crisis is getting worse, not better, and will create enormous pressures on NHS staff who are already struggling to cope, writes nurse and Secretary of NHS Staff Voices, Iain Wilson.
Throughout the pandemic, our key workers have struggled in impossible situations to support us all. Our teachers, teaching assistants, special educational needs support staff, caretakers and office staff have supported and taught our children tirelessly.
Keep Our NHS Public supports the National Education Union (NEU) resolution to keep schools closed until they’re safe. As infection rates reach an all-time high in the UK, it is unsafe and unfair to allow schools to open on Monday without the appropriate safety checks in place.
The political leadership Britain is completely failing to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. Since March government policy on lockdowns, on testing, on pushing to re-open businesses and keep education institutions open have directly contributed to the rise in the infection rates and to the spiraling death toll. We must impose a national lockdown and keep all schools closed.

Boris Johnson and the current conservative government have proved themselves, morally, ideologically and professionally incapable of keeping the people of this country safe.
